About
Ben’s Background
Ben started his degree in Building Surveying in 2001 after leaving college. After completing a year out placement for a well-regarded surveying company in Manchester, he continued to work for them part-time during his final year at Salford University. He graduated in 2005 with a BSc(Hons) in Building Surveying.
To further develop his knowledge and experience, he accepted a position at Cluttons LLP in West London. Founded in 1765, Cluttons is one of the oldest firms of chartered surveyors in the UK. During his time in London, he worked on commercial and highend residential properties, including listed buildings and prestigious addresses such as Kensington Palace Gardens.
Upon returning to the north‑west of England and settling again in Bolton, Ben worked across both the public and private surveying sectors, becoming a chartered building surveyor in 2009. He continued to work with residential and commercial properties, covering design, specification and contract administration, before choosing to focus exclusively on residential work.
Over the years, Ben has worked as a consultant for many different firms. He has also increasingly advised clients on domestic retrofit, including issues arising from failed insulation installations. He has written for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in peer‑reviewed journals on cavity wall insulation, as well as contributing to The Times and The Sunday Times.
Above all, Ben remains genuinely passionate about houses and helping people with the services Egerton Surveying provides.
